Why originals still travel
Law Firm Document Delivery in Toronto
Plenty of legal work is digital now, but originals still have to move: an executed agreement back to opposing counsel, a closing package across town on deal day, a document a client must sign in person. When the paper itself matters, a same-day courier closes the gap between ready and received.
Cargaroo handles these runs as secure, confidential courier work for practices of every size, from Bay Street towers to sole practitioners in North York or Mississauga. Sending a request costs nothing: Cargaroo looks at the route, the package and your deadline before accepting the booking, and you pay only once the window and price are confirmed.
Common legal deliveries
What Toronto Law Firms Send by Courier
Examples of legal runs we can carry, whether your practice handles litigation, real estate, corporate or family law.
-
Executed agreements
Signed contracts going back to a client, a counterparty or opposing counsel when a scan won’t do.
-
Closing packages
Real estate and corporate closing documents moving between law offices, lenders and clients.
-
Originals for signature
Documents a client must review or sign in person, delivered to their home or office.
-
Briefs and binders
Heavier briefs and binders can be booked as Medium (11–33 lb) or Large (33–66 lb) packages, within each size’s dimension limits.
-
File transfers
Boxed files moving between offices or to a new firm. Over 66 lb or 90 × 60 × 60 cm? It’s Extra Large, priced instantly (+$24 per package).
-
Court-bound materials
Documents your team needs at a courthouse, delivered to the office and person you name. How court runs work.
Courthouses and deadlines
Court Document Delivery, Planned Around Your Deadline
Several Toronto courthouses sit on or near University Avenue around Osgoode Hall, a short run from the Financial District. Give us the courthouse address, the floor or office and a named recipient; any building access requirements are confirmed with your booking. Filing and formal service stay with your firm; see the FAQ below.
Getting the timing right
- Tell us when the documents will be ready and when they must arrive. A requested deadline isn’t a confirmed delivery window until we confirm it.
- Standard same-day is for delivery within business hours, subject to availability. Express requests faster, direct-priority delivery, and rush may be available depending on the route, package and courier availability.
- There’s no fixed booking cutoff, so the earlier the better. On a tight deadline, call (647) 948-4093 before booking.
Handover checklist
Preparing Legal Documents for Pickup
-
Seal and label
Use a sealed envelope or document box. Show the recipient’s name, firm and suite, and a file number rather than client details.
-
Explain the building
Downtown towers often send couriers to a loading dock or security desk. Add the building name, floor, reception notes and a reachable contact at each end.
-
Declare valuables
Fragile or high-value items must be declared at booking, and hazardous or prohibited goods are not accepted.
Coverage
Legal Courier Routes Across Toronto & the GTA
Law offices cluster around Bay and King, but plenty of legal work starts or ends in the suburbs.
Typical legal runs
A Financial District firm sending originals to a client at Yonge and Eglinton or North York Centre, or a downtown office exchanging closing documents with a firm in Mississauga, Vaughan or Markham. Cross-city deliveries are priced on the actual driving route.
Routes elsewhere in Ontario are priced automatically too, by distance, counted from Toronto when no address is in our covered areas.
For busy practices
Regular Document Runs for Your Firm
Sending paper between the same offices every day or week? Set up a recurring route instead of booking each run. Send each address, pickup days, time windows and package sizes in a business enquiry; we respond within minutes, and the schedule and pricing are agreed before deliveries begin.
Multi-stop runs and dedicated routes are reviewed the same way. New recurring business clients can also ask about their first 3 deliveries free, standard local deliveries of up to 10 km driving distance each, once eligibility is confirmed (add-ons and surcharges are charged separately; offer ends December 31, 2026).
Legal Courier FAQs
View All FAQsDo I have to pay $5 for every package, even if I have 10?
It depends on the distance, not on how many packages you have. Packages going from the same pickup to the same drop-off count as one delivery, and the first 22 lb in total are included (then $0.20 per lb). Every extra stop uses the same price list, measured from the stop before it: up to 5 km away is $5, and 5.1–10 km away is $10. For example, a drop-off 4 km away is $5, and a second stop 7 km past it adds $10, for $15 in total. Prices are before HST; enter every address in the calculator to see your exact total.
Can you deliver legal documents the same day in Toronto?
Yes, subject to route and courier availability. Price the run in the instant price tool, choose standard same-day or express, and we confirm the delivery window before payment. On a tight court or closing deadline, call first to check rush availability.
Do you file documents at court or serve them on other parties?
No. Cargaroo is a courier: we collect from your pickup address and deliver to the courthouse, office and recipient you specify. Filing with a court office, formal service and any proof of service the rules require stay with your firm or your process server.
How are confidential legal documents handled?
We treat legal deliveries as secure, confidential courier work, and items are handled with care from pickup to drop-off. Seal documents before pickup and keep client details off the outside label. If a file comes with its own handling instructions, include them in your request so they can be confirmed before booking.
What proof of delivery do I get?
We get a signature at drop-off for every delivery. Need proof? We can send you a scanned copy of the signature by email or WhatsApp. If no one is there to sign, we call the recipient, then you. We don’t leave a delivery without a signature unless you or the recipient tell us to. Any re-delivery, return or additional charges must be confirmed for your booking. Your booking also has a private link for checking its status.
What if the documents won’t be ready until late afternoon?
Tell us the ready time and the recipient’s deadline. We’re open Monday to Sunday, 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM ET, and same-day delivery may be available into the evening, depending on the route and courier schedule. A requested time isn’t guaranteed until it’s confirmed.
